Ask Later Privacy Policy

Ask Later is a Chrome extension that helps users save follow-up questions from ChatGPT and return to them later. The extension is designed to work without a developer-operated backend.

1. Data the extension accesses

Only after a user chooses to save or continue a question, Ask Later may access:

  • text the user intentionally selects from a ChatGPT assistant response;
  • an optional question draft entered by the user, which is included only when the user chooses to continue that question;
  • the source conversation title and URL;
  • creation and update times, and the user-assigned question status;
  • the selected interface language;
  • local counters and timestamps used to evaluate whether the core workflow works. These counters do not contain question text, selected text, titles, or URLs.

2. Storage and transmission

Persistent content is stored in chrome.storage.local on the user’s device. Short-lived, tab-scoped tasks used to prefill a new ChatGPT conversation are stored in chrome.storage.session and are removed after success, tab closure, or expiry.

Ask Later does not transmit saved questions, selected text, source titles, source URLs, or local usage counters to a developer server or third-party analytics service. The extension does not provide cloud sync in its current version.

Users can manually download a JSON activity summary from Settings. The file is created locally and contains only the data schema version, generation time, and content-free aggregate counters. It does not include saved questions, selected text, source titles, source URLs, or interface preferences. Ask Later does not upload or send the downloaded file.

3. How data is used

The accessed data is used only to:

  • save a question the user chose to keep;
  • show the saved-question side panel;
  • reopen the source conversation;
  • prepare a new ChatGPT conversation after the user chooses to continue;
  • preserve question status and language preference;
  • show an optional, session-limited reminder when an older saved question exists;
  • let the user manually download content-free aggregate counters for voluntary MVP testing.

Ask Later never sends a question to ChatGPT automatically. The user reviews and sends any prefilled message.

4. Sharing, selling, and advertising

Ask Later does not sell user data, share it with data brokers or advertisers, use it for personalised advertising, or use it for creditworthiness or lending decisions. There is no third-party analytics SDK in the extension.

5. Permissions

  • storage: keeps saved questions and preferences available after Chrome restarts, and holds short-lived prefill tasks;
  • sidePanel: shows the saved-question inbox beside ChatGPT;
  • https://chatgpt.com/*: enables the save action, optional reminder, and user-requested prefill only on ChatGPT.

The extension does not request access to all websites, browsing history, notifications, or the clipboard as a Chrome extension permission.

6. Retention and deletion

Saved questions remain on the user’s device until the user deletes them, clears the extension’s local storage, or uninstalls the extension. Ask Later provides controls to delete individual saved questions. Because the current version has no developer backend, the publisher does not retain a server-side copy that needs a separate deletion request.

7. Changes and contact

If a future version introduces cloud sync, remote analytics, additional website access, or another material change to data handling, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosure will be updated before that version is released.
